What time is it? Is it an hour forward or backward?

It really doesn't matter when you are on vacation right? You didn't even bring a watch so you could really enjoy your vacation. Make sure to disconnect from the hamster wheel!

Except, you did book a day trip, an excursion or a sightseeing tour. In that case you have to be at your pickup location at a specific time. Now it really matters to know the current time at your vacation destination.

How many time zones are there in Mexico?

Currently we have three different time zones in Mexico.

The majority of the country is on Central Standard Time with Daylight Saving Time (DST) in summer. Five states in the north-west are an hour behind, and only Baja California Norte, is two hours behind.

That is the same time zone as the U.S. East Coast cities except when they are on DST, which they currently are.

It has another big advantage if you are traveling to the Mayan Riviera and staying in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum or generally the Riviera Maya. In case you are planning to visit a city or archaeological site in the state of Yucatan, like Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, or Merida, you will be able to set your alarm one hour later.

But once April 6th hits, the state of Yucatan will be in the same time zone as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum.

These interesting tourist destinations are located in the state of Yucatan and the time will be set forward for one hour on April 6th to match the current time in Cancun.

Sun, April 7, 2:00 AM CST → CDT -1 hour (DST start)

The time in Quintana Roo and the Riviera Maya remains the same and that is why there is an hour difference between these two states until the first Sunday in April.

Sunday, October 27th time will be set backward for one hour in YUCATAN, but NOT in QUINTANA ROO, CANCUN, PLAYA DEL CARMEN, etc.

We have added a time widget to our website, just to make sure you know the current time.
